Teaching moved to online mid-way through teaching in Semester 2 due to the lockdown. Department staff worked to move their teaching materials so that lectures and practicals could be run online. The students invited staff to become members of their Discord community site, to help with communication between students and staff. |

Due to the pandemic, the First Year Activity Weekend moves from its recent home at Glan-llyn and it runs at the Aberystwyth campus. Modifications were made to take account of the social distancing rules at the time. |

BCS, the Chartered Institute for IT publishes the book Women in Tech: A practical guide to increasing gender diversity and inclusion. Hannah Dee is one of the authors, including writing a chapter about Computing in Schools. |

Peter King, deceased 13 November. Peter was a lecturer in Computer Science in the Statistics Department before Computer Science was formed. He was the Director of the Computer Centre until he left in 1970 and became Professor at Birkbeck College, University of London. |

BCS, the Chartered Institute for IT publishes the 3rd edition of Professional Issues in IT, authored by Frank Bott and Neil Taylor. |

The department staff spend time at Gregynog to discuss teaching and research, following the effects of the pandemic. The two day event allowed staff to spend focused time on the discussion, away from the usual activities on campus. |
2023 |
Success at the Teaching, Learning & Student Experience Awards 2023, from the Students' Union. Computer Science was awarded the Department of the Year and Dr Helen Miles was awarded Personal Tutor of the Year. Additionally, Dr Christine Zarges was nominated for Personal Tutor of the Year, Clark Seanor was nominated for Academic Representative of the Year and Rachel Seabourne was nominated for Student Volunteer of the Year. |

Work begins to construct a new house on campus, which will be used for the Smart Home research by the Intelligent Robotics group. The house is in the woodland area, between the Physical Sciences building and the sports facilities. |

Success at the Students' Union's Teaching, Learning & Students Union Awards. Dr Amanda Clare receives the award for Supervisor of the Year. |

The Intelligent Robotics group runs a live demo of its autonomous vehicle technology, which navigates terrain based on human-like descriptions and computer vision, rather than GPS. The demo was part of the UK Robotics Robot Lab Live event. Aberystwyth was one of 8 robotic groups in the UK to take part in the demos. A recording of the demo is available on YouTube. |

Dr Amanda Clare wins the award for Supervisor of the Year at the 2024 Teaching, Learning and Student Experience Awards, hosted by the Undeb Aberystwyth - the Students' Union. |

The department starts its annual Robotics Week events with the Beach Lab on Saturday 15th June 2024 at Aberystwyth Band Stand. For further details, see the University News article Pet dragon to debut at BeachLab. |

The 17th Aberystwyth Bioinformatics Workshops takes place on June 7th, 2024. There were contributions from staff at Aberystwyth University, McMaster University and Robert Koch Institute. |
